Nintendo has confirmed that it will discontinue the integration of the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on its Switch consoles effective June 10, 2024. This change means that users will no longer be able to post screenshots and videos captured on the Switch directly to X. Additionally, the ability to send friend requests via the Friend Suggestions feature, which connects social media friends with Switch users, will also be removed.

The update will impact certain games more directly, such as Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, where the sharing functionality will be adjusted. Furthermore, the discontinuation of X integration will affect the ability to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots to Smash World via the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app.

While Facebook remains a supported platform for now, it is indicated that this service might also be subject to discontinuation in the future. This follows a broader trend seen across other gaming platforms, such as PlayStation and Xbox, which have also made changes to their social media integration, particularly in response to X's revised API pricing model introduced in 2023.
