TAG Heuer Data Breach Exposes Private Information of 2,900 South Koreans

The private data of approximately 2,900 South Korean customers was leaked following a cyberattack on TAG Heuer, a Swiss watchmaker owned by LVMH. The incident occurred between 2019 and 2020 during a period when the company's website was undergoing renovation. TAG Heuer reported the data breach to South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) after the company was blackmailed by the hacker in May last year.

The PIPC has imposed financial penalties on TAG Heuer, ordering the company to pay 126 million won ($90,712) for the data breach and an additional 7.8 million won for the delayed reporting of the incident. This marks the first time South Korea has levied such penalties against the company. The breach has raised concerns among the affected customers, as their sensitive personal information was compromised.
