Hacker Paralyzes Indonesian National Data Center, Demands $8 Million Ransom

A cyber attacker has compromised Indonesia's national data centre, demanding an $8 million ransom, according to Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi. The attack, which employed a new variant of the ransomware software Lockbit 3.0, disrupted several government services, including immigration operations at airports. While the automated machines at these airports are now functional, the ransomware has encrypted crucial data, and the attackers have threatened to leak or delete it if the ransom is not paid.

The Lockbit 3.0 ransomware is known for extorting victims by offering decryption keys in exchange for payments, typically made in cryptocurrency. Digital forensics are currently underway to investigate the breach, but further details have not yet been disclosed.
