Qualcomm has expanded its mobile chipset offerings with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, aiming to provide enhanced performance and advanced features to mid-range smartphones. Built using a 4nm process, the chipset boasts a prime Cortex-X4 core, four performance Cortex-A720 cores, and three efficiency Cortex-A520 cores. Qualcomm promises a 15% improvement in CPU performance and a 45% increase in GPU performance over its predecessor, while also achieving a 5% reduction in power consumption.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 distinguishes itself as the first in its series to offer on-device generative AI capabilities, supporting a variety of large language models and large vision models such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM. The chipset is equipped with the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem, capable of 4.2 Gbps peak download speeds, and introduces support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and LE Audio. It can support displays up to 4K at 60 Hz and QHD+ at 120 Hz, with variable refresh rates from 240 Hz to 1 Hz.

The new platform also caters to mobile gaming with features like Game Post Processing Accelerator and Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2, aiming to deliver desktop-like visuals. For photography, it includes triple 18-bit image signal processors capable of capturing 200-megapixel images, while offering support for multi-language translation and transcription.

OnePlus, Realme, and Sharp are among the first smartphone manufacturers to adopt the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, with device announcements expected to follow. This launch marks Qualcomm's commitment to enhancing AI integration and performance in the mid-range smartphone market.
