Leaked Files Unveil Canceled Cyberpunk 2077 Moon DLC

Files for the cancelled 'Moon' DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 have surfaced online, revealing concept art, blueprints, file repositories, and map-based data. This expansion, which would have been the first out-of-map addition to the game, was intended to take place on the Moon and include multiple bases, a rover vehicle, and a map approximately six square kilometers in size. The Moon, known as Luna in the Cyberpunk universe, holds significant historical and operational importance.

The development of Cyberpunk 2077 initially promised multiple expansions and a multiplayer component. However, these plans were scaled back due to delays and the need for CD Projekt Red (CDPR) to focus on other projects. The game's first and only expansion, Phantom Liberty, was released in 2023 and received critical acclaim. The Moon DLC's cancellation is partly attributed to CDPR shifting its focus to the sequel, Project Orion, which started development earlier this year.

The leaked files suggest that the Moon expansion could have tied into the Crystal Palace, an orbiting megastructure featured in the base game's ending. Despite the cancellation, some elements of the planned content have appeared in other media, such as the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime. While active development on Cyberpunk 2077 has ended, the sequel may incorporate some of the ideas from the cancelled DLC.
