Los Angeles Police Department officers shot and killed a man who was reportedly armed with a knife in an apartment near Koreatown. The incident took place shortly after 11 a.m. in the 400 block of South Gramercy Place. Officers were responding to a mental health call in conjunction with Department of Mental Health workers when they encountered the man, identified as 40-year-old Yong Yang.

According to reports, Yang confronted the officers with the knife, which led to at least one officer discharging their firearm. Yang was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no injuries reported among the officers or bystanders present.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation, with the LAPD stating that the initial call was regarding a violent male. The family of Yong Yang, who had reported him due to a mental health crisis, has expressed concerns, with Yang's brother alleging that the police "wrongfully killed" him.
