Yusuf Pathan to Battle in LS Polls from Berhampore as TMC Nominee

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has unveiled its slate of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which includes former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan. Pathan, who is well-known for his tenure with the Indian cricket team and the Kolkata Knight Riders, will contest from the Baharampur constituency in West Bengal. The seat is currently held by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during a rally in Kolkata, announced the complete list of TMC candidates for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The list features a mix of new entrants and incumbent MPs, with significant figures such as Mahua Moitra and the party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The TMC's campaign, which is already underway, is placing emphasis on the party's claims of financial dues being withheld by the central government.

The TMC has made strategic changes to its candidate list, dropping eight sitting MPs and introducing fresh faces. Alongside Pathan, another former cricketer, Kirti Azad, has also been nominated. The TMC's campaign strategy includes facilitating better interaction between leaders and supporters by erecting ramps at speaking events. Banerjee also mentioned ongoing discussions with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav about contesting in Uttar Pradesh and criticized the BJP on issues related to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and detention camps in Bengal.
