The endorsement was made via his social media platform, Truth Social. Trump emphasized that individuals should not be criminalized for possessing personal amounts of marijuana, something that is legal in other states. He also advocated for the prohibition of marijuana use in public spaces and expressed concerns about the dangers of fentanyl-laced marijuana.
The proposal has faced opposition from prominent Florida Republicans, including Governor Ron DeSantis, who has criticized it as "bad policy and worse constitutional law." If passed, Amendment 3 would allow adults to possess up to three ounces of marijuana and would make Florida the 25th state to legalize the substance. Recent polls indicate that a majority of Florida residents support the amendment. The measure requires 60% voter approval to be enacted.
