Trump Honors Kabul Attack Victims at Arlington Cemetery

Former President Donald Trump attended a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery to commemorate the three-year anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and to honor the 13 American soldiers who were killed in a bombing at the Kabul airport during the withdrawal. He was joined by family members of the deceased soldiers. The ceremony included the playing of "Taps" and a wreath was laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were absent from the ceremony but issued statements marking the anniversary. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that Congress will posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the families of the 13 service members who died in the attack. The withdrawal from Afghanistan, which led to the Taliban taking over billions of dollars worth of U.S. military equipment, continues to be a point of criticism and investigation by House Republicans.
