Wi-Fi range extenders are designed to enhance a home’s wireless signal, addressing dead spots and extending coverage. These devices connect to an existing home network and rebroadcast the signal, creating a new network that often has a different name. This rebroadcasted network can support single, dual, or tri-band Wi-Fi with maximum speeds varying by model, such as 600Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1300Mbps on the 5GHz band, resulting in a combined maximum speed of 1900Mbps. For larger coverage areas, mesh Wi-Fi systems, which include a main router and additional access points, provide a more seamless solution, though they are more complex and costly. The new AIROC CYW5591x Connected MCU product family by Infineon Technologies integrates robust Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.4 with a secured MCU for various IoT applications. The product family offers tri-band, dual-band, and single-band support and includes software and hardware resources for developers. Additionally, advancements in Wi-Fi technology, including Wi-Fi 6/6E and the upcoming Wi-Fi 7, promise improved efficiency and backward compatibility with earlier standards.
