The Beatles 'Let It Be' Film Streams on Disney+ After Restoration
On May 8, Disney+ will release a restored version of the original 1970 documentary film "Let It Be," directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. The film, which documents The Beatles during the creation of their 12th and final studio album, has not been widely available for over five decades. This re-release is significant as it provides a glimpse into the band's dynamics during their final days of collaboration.
The restoration was carried out by the team at Park Road Post Production, led by Peter Jackson, who previously directed the 2021 docuseries "The Beatles: Get Back." Utilizing the original 16mm negative and audio de-mixing technology similar to that used in "Get Back," the team aimed to preserve the authenticity of the footage while enhancing its quality for modern viewing standards.
The film captures intimate moments of The Beatles' songwriting and recording processes and has been described not as a breakup film but as a portrayal of the relationships between the band members. With the addition of "Let It Be" to its catalog, Disney+ enriches its offering of Beatles content, including Jackson's own "The Beatles: Get Back" docuseries.
