Tesla Recalls 1.8 Million Vehicles to Address Hood Latching Issue

Tesla is recalling over 1.8 million vehicles in the US due to a software failure that may not detect an unlatched hood, potentially obstructing the driver's view and increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects certain models of the 2021-2024 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles. Tesla has issued an over-the-air software update to resolve the issue at no cost to the customers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has noted that while Tesla is unaware of any crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the issue, the company has identified three warranty claims or field reports in the US.

This recall is Tesla's second-largest this year, following a previous recall of about 2.2 million vehicles due to a smaller font size for warning lights. Additionally, last month, Tesla announced the recall of most Cybertrucks in the country due to issues with their windshield wipers and exterior trim. The company plans to notify affected vehicle owners by September 22nd.
