Tales of Kenzera Zau Joins PS Plus Game Catalog on Launch Day

Surgent Studios is set to release its debut game, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, on April 23, 2024, across various platforms including Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game, inspired by the personal experiences of UK actor and studio founder Abubakar Salim, delves into themes of love, loss, and resilience as players assume the role of Zau, a warrior-shaman from Amandla. Zau's quest leads him to confront Kalunga, the God of Death, in hopes of bringing back his Baba from the afterlife.

The game is a 2.5D side-scrolling action-exploration title, paying homage to the Metroidvania genre. It offers a dual skill tree system, where players can earn experience and unlock new abilities associated with the Moon mask and Sun mask. This progression system allows for a variety of attack combos and feats, enhancing the player's capabilities to navigate through the richly designed 2.5D environments. The immersive experience is further amplified by an enchanting original soundtrack composed by Nainita Desai.

For early adopters, preordering the game through Electronic Arts' EA Originals brand comes with a 10% discount and additional in-game rewards. Furthermore, Tales of Kenzera: Zau will also be available as a Day One title for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, which aligns with Sony's strategy to enrich its subscription service offerings with indie titles alongside major releases.
