Suicide Bombing in Kandahar Kills Three, Injures 12
A suicide bombing occurred outside a bank in the city of Kandahar, Afghanistan, resulting in the death of three individuals and injuring 12 others. The explosion targeted civilians congregated outside the New Kabul Bank branch to withdraw money. Inamullah Samangani, Director of Information and Culture for Kandahar province, confirmed the incident took place at approximately 8:00 am local time (0330 GMT) on Thursday.
The incident marks a continuation of violence in the region despite a reduction in the number of bomb blasts and suicide attacks since the Taliban ceased their insurgency in 2021. Armed groups, including the regional chapter of the Islamic State group, still pose significant security threats in Afghanistan. Local police indicated that the victims were primarily civilians.
