'Squid Game' Season 2 Gets Release Date, Ends With Season 3
Netflix has announced that the second season of the popular Korean drama "Squid Game" will premiere on December 26, 2024. This announcement was made via a special video release featuring a letter from the series creator, director, and executive producer, Hwang Dong-hyuk. The third and final season is set to debut in 2025. Hwang expressed his excitement about the series' development and the continuation of the story.
Returning cast members for the second season include Lee Jung-jae as Player 456, along with Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. The new season will also introduce new characters played by Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young, among others. The plot will pick up three years after Gi-hun's victory in the deadly games, focusing on his quest to uncover the organization behind the games.
"Squid Game" became Netflix's most-watched original series upon its debut in 2021 and garnered significant acclaim, including six Emmy nominations. Hwang Dong-hyuk, who became the first Asian director to win the Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series prize at the Emmys, will continue his role as writer, director, and executive producer for the upcoming seasons.
