Spotify Unveils AI-Driven Playlists Customizable With Prompts
Spotify has launched a new feature in beta, known as AI Playlists, which allows users to create personalized playlists through written prompts. This feature is currently available to Premium users on Android and iOS devices in the UK and Australia, with plans to expand to other regions in the near future. Utilizing large language models (LLMs), Spotify's AI can interpret a wide array of user prompts, from whimsical themes like "songs for my cat" to imaginative scenarios such as "beats for battling a zombie apocalypse."
Users can fine-tune their playlists by providing additional instructions to the AI, such as "less upbeat" or "more pop," ensuring the final selection better aligns with their preferences. While the AI is designed to accommodate a variety of requests, it is programmed with guardrails to avoid responding to offensive prompts or focusing on current events or specific brands. If a user is not satisfied with the playlist generated, they have the option to have suggested tracks removed.
