South Carolina kayaker dies at Cape Hatteras National Seashore

A 72-year-old man from Florence, South Carolina, has died following a kayaking incident at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina. The accident occurred near Off-Road Vehicle Ramp 43, east of the Cape Point Campground near Buxton. Witnesses reported that the man's kayak capsized while he was attempting to ride a wave approximately 50 yards from the shore.

Good Samaritans on the beach pulled the man from the water and brought him to shore. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, the efforts were unsuccessful. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is currently investigating the incident.
