Sky Joins Forces with CityFibre to Launch Broadband Services

CityFibre has entered into a long-term partnership with Sky to offer broadband services on its nationwide full fibre network starting next year. The agreement aims to extend Sky's broadband reach to over 1.3 million homes in hard-to-reach areas through CityFibre's participation in the Government's Project Gigabit Programme. This partnership will utilize CityFibre's current network, which covers 3.8 million properties, with plans to expand to at least 8 million properties in the coming years.

The collaboration has caused a significant reaction in the market, leading to a nearly 5% drop in BT's shares, as Sky's new service on CityFibre's network is viewed as a challenge to BT's dominance. Currently, Sky offers broadband services using BT's Openreach network. Amber Pine, Sky’s Managing Director of Connectivity, emphasized that the partnership will enable Sky to provide fast, reliable, and great value broadband to more homes across the UK. Greg Mesch, CEO of CityFibre, described the partnership as a substantial vote of confidence in CityFibre, reinforcing its position as the UK’s third digital infrastructure platform.
