SK Hynix HBM Chips for Nvidia Nearly Sold Out Through 2025

SK Hynix, a leading South Korean semiconductor supplier, is nearing full pre-booking for its 2025 high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are integral components for AI chipsets. This announcement follows the complete booking of its 2024 HBM chips, underscoring the escalating demand for advanced memory in the AI sector. The company's CEO, Kwak Noh-Jung, revealed that SK Hynix would begin sampling its latest HBM3E chips in May, with mass production slated to commence in the third quarter.

This surge in demand is aligned with the rapid proliferation of AI technology across a broad spectrum of on-device applications. In response to this demand, SK Hynix last month detailed significant investments to expand its manufacturing capabilities, including $3.87 billion for a new chip packaging plant in Indiana, USA, equipped with an HBM chip line. Additionally, the company is investing 5.3 trillion won ($3.85 billion) to construct a new DRAM chip factory in South Korea. These investments are part of a strategic effort to bolster the company's production capacity to meet the global boom in AI services.
