Shanghai Museum’s 'Meow Night' Showcases Egyptian Cat Imagery

Shanghai Museum is hosting a unique exhibition of ancient Egyptian relics, inspired by the cat goddess Bastet, that runs from July 19, 2023, to August 17, 2025. As part of the exhibition, titled "The Secrets of Saqqara," the museum offers a special event called 'Meow Night' on Saturday nights, allowing visitors to bring their cats to explore the exhibition. Each 'Meow Night' accommodates up to 200 cats, with tickets selling out every time.

Visitors can bring their cats in carriers or pet strollers to designated areas for photo opportunities. To ensure the well-being of the animals, the cats are checked upon entry for up-to-date vaccinations and any signs of illness or stress. Veterinarians are present on-site, and rest areas are available for the cats. The exhibition has successfully integrated the ancient Egyptian veneration of cats into a modern interactive experience for pet owners and their feline companions.
