Severe Floods in Northern Armenia Leave One Dead, Hundreds Evacuated

Heavy rains on May 26 have led to severe flooding in the northern regions of Armenia and parts of Georgia, resulting in one fatality and significant infrastructure damage. The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that 20 people have been rescued, with one person still missing. The floods have disrupted the railway communication with Georgia for several days, cutting off access to at least 15 villages.

The Debed river's overflow has blocked both highway and railway links between Armenia and Georgia, necessitating the evacuation of at least 230 residents from hazardous areas in northern Armenia. Buildings and infrastructure have suffered considerable damage. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has visited the affected areas to assess the situation.
