Safety Concerns and Arrests Force Early End to Harrisburg Fireworks Show

Harrisburg's Fourth of July fireworks display was ended early due to safety concerns related to firearms and firecrackers among attendees. According to reports, police arrested a juvenile for possessing an illegally modified Glock pistol with a 24-round magazine, and another individual was seen throwing a gun into the Susquehanna River. Additionally, a third person, a juvenile with a BB gun, was detained but later released. During the incident, firecrackers were set off, and individuals were running, leading to minor injuries to Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams.

The incident led to the abrupt end of the fireworks show, which had begun at 9:15 p.m. Police Commissioner Thomas Carter decided to empty Riverfront Park to ensure the safety of attendees. The Fourth of July Food Truck Festival in Riverfront Park was also shut down as a precaution. No shots were fired during the incident, and no major injuries were reported. Authorities plan to conduct a search for any missing firearms thrown into the river.
