Russian FSB Detains Scientist for Treason
The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has detained a scientist in Moscow on suspicion of state treason. The scientist, identified as Artyom Khoroshilov, is accused of carrying out distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on critical infrastructure at the behest of Ukrainian security services. Additionally, Khoroshilov allegedly sent financial aid to the Ukrainian military and collected sensitive information on the Russian armed forces.
The FSB stated that the scientist had confessed to the crimes. The exact timing of the arrest remains unclear, though Russian media suggest it may have occurred weeks earlier. The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny of activities deemed to undermine Russian information security and follows the recent conviction of Mikhail Baranov, a top manager at the Lukhovitsky Aviation Plant, for high treason.
