Risant Health finalizes Geisinger takeover

Risant Health, an entity created by Kaiser Permanente, has finalized the acquisition of Pennsylvania-based Geisinger Health, including Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. This marks the initial move in Risant's strategy to build a network focused on value-based care and to expand the adoption of such care across various health environments. The new healthcare platform aims to leverage best practices, tools, technology, and services to enhance community-based health systems.

Jaewon Ryu, who has been serving as Geisinger's president and CEO since 2019, will transition to the role of CEO of Risant Health. As part of the acquisition, Geisinger will maintain its mission, continue to accept patients covered by other health plans, and provide its members with a broad network of care providers. The merger, which was reviewed and approved by federal and state agencies, officially closed on March 31.

The acquisition is part of a larger plan by Risant to incorporate four to five additional leading health systems over the next four to five years. The goal is to create a multisystem, multiregional organization designed to improve healthcare outcomes and reduce costs for patients. The company aims to achieve this by developing joint clinical programs and increasing access to high-quality, evidence-based healthcare.
