Polygon Confirmed MATIC to POL Migration Set for Sept. 4

Polygon Labs will transition its native token from MATIC to POL on September 4 as part of its Polygon 2.0 roadmap. This upgrade aims to enhance the utility and functionality of Polygon’s ecosystem, particularly for its proof-of-stake (PoS) network and the broader aggregated blockchain network, AggLayer. The POL token will replace MATIC as the primary token for gas fees and staking on the Polygon PoS chain.

The transition will be automatic for MATIC holders on the Polygon PoS chain, but those holding MATIC on other platforms, including centralized exchanges and Polygon zkEVM, will need to follow specific migration procedures. The POL upgrade initially went live on the Polygon testnet on July 17, allowing users, developers, and infrastructure providers to prepare for the mainnet migration. The move is expected to bring significant scalability and liquidity improvements, maintaining MATIC's existing tokenomics, distribution, and total supply.
