Oklahoma GOP Censures Sen. Lankford for Border Deal Involvement

The Oklahoma Republican Party has taken a firm stance against Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) due to his participation in a bipartisan negotiation concerning border security and immigration. In a resolution, the party criticized Lankford for collaborating with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats to draft a deal that they claim would enable a high number of illegal immigrants to enter and work in the United States daily, potentially reaching 35,000 individuals weekly.

The party's resolution accuses Lankford of violating his oath to the Constitution and compromising the safety and security of American citizens. It asserts that the senator's actions also disenfranchise legal immigrants who are seeking citizenship. As a result, the Oklahoma Republican Party has announced it will withdraw all support for Lankford unless he alters his position on this issue.

In response to the resolution, Sen. Lankford has reaffirmed his stance on the importance of border security for national safety. Meanwhile, the bipartisan Senate negotiators are working towards a compromise bill that would grant the Biden administration new authority to expel migrants if illegal crossings surpass a threshold of 4,000 individuals per day or 8,500 on a single day. President Biden has expressed support for the potential border shutdown measure, while some within the Oklahoma GOP allege that the resolution against Lankford was not legally convened and does not represent the views of all state Republicans.
