Oil Spill Shuts Down Sentosa Island Beaches in Singapore

Beaches on Singapore's resort island, Sentosa, have been closed following an oil spill at the Pasir Panjang terminal. The incident occurred on Friday when the Netherlands-flagged dredger Vox Maxima collided with the stationary bunker vessel Marine Honour. The spill affected the waters of three popular beaches on the island, as well as the residential area Sentosa Cove.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has deployed 16 oil spill response craft to manage the situation. These vessels are spraying oil dispersants and collecting the oil slicks on the water surface. Oil booms are also being used to prevent further contamination. Clean-up efforts are ongoing, but the MPA has not disclosed the amount of oil spilled.
