Nvidia's AI Chip Delay Impacts Major Tech Giants

Nigio Corp’s upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) chips are facing delays due to design flaws, according to The Information. The delay could impact customers including Meta Platforms Inc., Google LLC, and Microsoft Corp., potentially pushing shipments back by three months or more and affecting deliveries slated for the first quarter of 2025. A spokesperson for Nvidia, the company responsible for the chips, stated that production is still expected to ramp up later this year, with shipments beginning in Q1 2025.

The issue, identified by manufacturer TSMC, involves the processor die that connects two Blackwell GPUs on a GB200. Nvidia is now adjusting the design and considering producing a version of the chip with only one Blackwell GPU to expedite delivery. Despite the delays, Nvidia has increased its orders by 25% for Blackwell GPUs to meet demand. This development follows Nvidia's recent notification to major cloud service providers like Microsoft and Meta about the production delays of its advanced AI chips.
