Nokia CEO Conducts World's First 'Immersive' Phone Call

Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark has conducted the world's first 'immersive' phone call using a new technology known as "immersive audio and video". This technology enhances call quality by providing three-dimensional sound, which creates more lifelike interactions. The technology allows participants' voices to be separated based on spatial locations, making the conversation experience feel as though the individuals are in the same room.

This innovation is part of the upcoming 5G Advanced standard and is currently being standardized to enable network operators, chipset makers, and smartphone companies to integrate it into their products. Nokia aims to pursue licensing opportunities for this technology. The inaugural call, made to Stefan Lindström, Finland’s Ambassador of Digitalisation and New Technologies, was conducted using a regular smartphone over a public 5G network.
