Nintendo Switch Online N64 Library Grows With Two New Games

Nintendo has expanded its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service with the addition of two Nintendo 64 titles, Extreme-G and Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls. These racing games, originally released in 1997 and 1998 respectively, were published by Acclaim Entertainment, a company that filed for bankruptcy in 2004. The games have been reintroduced to a modern audience with the inclusion of local split-screen multiplayer and online support.

The addition of these games brings the total number of N64 titles available on the service in the West to 32. Access to these games requires a subscription to the Expansion Pack tier of Nintendo Switch Online, which also provides access to NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and SEGA Genesis games. In Japan, the service has also added Rare's Blast Dozer (known as Blast Corps outside Japan) to its N64 lineup.

This update is part of Nintendo's ongoing efforts to bolster its retro gaming offerings through the Switch Online service. The inclusion of Extreme-G and Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls is significant as it suggests a potential partnership with Throwback Entertainment, which now owns the rights to these titles, hinting at the possibility of more Throwback-owned games appearing on the service in the future. Despite not being among the most iconic games in the N64 catalog, their availability provides nostalgic value and expands the variety of the Switch Online game library.
