Netflix Teams Up with Creators for Animated Minecraft Series

Netflix and Mojang Studios are collaborating to develop a new CG-animated TV series based on the popular video game Minecraft. The series will feature an original story with new characters and will be produced by WildBrain, the animation studio known for Netflix series such as Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and Carmen Sandiego. While the release date for the series has not been announced, it will debut exclusively on Netflix.

This project is part of the 15th-anniversary celebrations of Minecraft, which is the best-selling video game in history with over 300 million copies sold. The collaboration is another example of the growing trend of video game studios leveraging transmedia projects to expand their audiences and enhance their brands. Additionally, a live-action Minecraft movie is also in development, set for release in 2025.
