Medline Recalls 1.5 Million Bed Rails After Two Deaths Due to Entrapment Hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Medline Industries LP have issued a recall for 1.5 million Adult Portable Bed Rails due to serious entrapment and asphyxiation hazards. The recalled bed rails, sold from July 2009 to March 2024, pose a risk of trapping users within the rail or between the rail and mattress. This risk has resulted in two reported deaths, one in July 2019 and another in November 2023, involving individuals aged 76 and 87, respectively.

The bed rails were sold through Medline's websites, various retailers, and online medical supply stores across the nation, with prices ranging from $32 to $64 each. The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled bed rails and return them for a refund.
