Measles case detected in traveler transiting through LAX

A traveler infected with measles recently passed through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), according to Los Angeles County public health officials. The individual arrived on Lufthansa Flight LH 452 at the Tom Bradley International Terminal B, Gate 156, and then connected to Flight LH 7852 at Terminal 7, Gate 82. This occurred on May 19, with the traveler spending five hours at the airport between flights.

Health officials are urging individuals who were at these locations and times to verify their measles vaccination status, as those who are not immunized or have unknown immunization status are at risk of developing the disease within seven to 21 days after exposure. Measles is a highly contagious airborne virus that can cause symptoms such as high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash that starts on the face and spreads down the body. The MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella, is highly effective, with one dose being 93% effective and two doses providing even greater protection.
