Chinese actress Cheng Pei-pei, known for her roles in iconic films such as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Come Drink With Me," has died at the age of 78. Her management company, Supreme Art Entertainment, confirmed her death on July 17, stating she passed away peacefully in San Francisco surrounded by her family. Cheng had been suffering from a neurodegenerative condition similar to Parkinson's disease since 2019 and had donated her brain to medical research.

Born in 1946 in Shanghai, Cheng moved to Hong Kong in 1962, where she launched her acting career with Shaw Brothers studio. She became a pioneer for female action stars with her breakthrough role in King Hu's 1966 film "Come Drink With Me." Cheng later gained international acclaim for her portrayal of Jade Fox in Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," which won four Academy Awards. Her extensive career also included roles in "Golden Swallow," "Naked Weapon," "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li," and Disney's live-action "Mulan." Cheng is survived by her four children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, her family requested donations to the Brain Support Network.
