Malawi Vice President's Plane Disappears, Urgent Search Underway
A Malawi Defense Force aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others has gone missing. The plane, which departed from Lilongwe on Monday morning, was en route to Mzuzu but failed to land as scheduled at Mzuzu International Airport. Efforts to contact the aircraft have been unsuccessful, prompting aviation authorities to initiate a search and rescue operation.
The Vice President was traveling to attend the burial of the late Ralph Kasambara in Nkhata Bay. The disappearance has raised fears that the aircraft may have crashed, potentially in the Chikangawa forest area due to adverse weather conditions. President Lazarus Chakwera has canceled a planned trip to the Bahamas to address the situation. Search and rescue efforts by the Malawi Defense Force are ongoing as the country awaits further updates.
