Macau casino revenue reaches highest post-pandemic level at MOP$20.2 billion in May

Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) surged to MOP20.19 billion (USD2.52 billion) in May, marking a 29.7% year-over-year increase and the highest level since January 2020. The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau reported an 8.9% rise compared to April. The January-to-May gaming revenue reached MOP96 billion ($12 billion), a 47.9% increase over the same period in 2023.

Baccarat remained the dominant source of revenue, contributing 85.4% of the total GGR. The increase in May was partly attributed to the influx of visitors during the five-day May Golden Week celebration. Despite some caution from major firms regarding Chinese spending and consumer behavior trends, surveys indicate that most gamblers plan to maintain or increase their spending in Macau. The government has forecasted a full-year GGR of MOP216 billion for 2024.
