Kristen Stewart to Lead as Sally Ride in 'The Challenger' Series

Kristen Stewart is set to make her television series debut in The Challenger, a limited series about astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman and the first member of the LGBTQ+ community to fly in space. The series is based on Meredith E. Bagby's book "The New Guys," which details the experiences of a diverse group of astronauts recruited by NASA in the 1970s. Maggie Cohn, known for her work on American Crime Story and Narcos: Mexico, will serve as the writer and showrunner.

The project is being developed by Kyra Sedgwick's Big Swing Productions, Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners, and Kristen Stewart's Nevermind production label. MGM Studios is set to produce the series, and Amazon is reportedly close to securing a deal to air it. The series aims to coincide with the anniversary of the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986.
