Kenya Power Prepaid Token System Maintenance Will Halt Purchases for 24 Hours

Kenya Power has announced a 24-hour outage of its prepaid token vending system scheduled from June 2, 2024, at 10:00 p.m. to June 3, 2024, at 10:00 p.m. The system interruption is part of a planned upgrade aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of electricity distribution services across the country. During this period, customers will not be able to purchase electricity tokens from all vending points, including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and banking channels.

The company has advised its prepaid customers to purchase sufficient tokens ahead of the scheduled outage to avoid inconvenience. As of January, Kenya Power serves 6.8 million prepaid and 2.1 million postpaid customers, with prepaid users accounting for 63% of its total revenues. This maintenance follows a previous 15-hour downtime in January caused by a mobile money transfer system issue. The upgrade is part of Kenya Power's ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and streamline operations.
