Keck Hospital of USC Receives 'A' Grade for Patient Safety from Leapfrog Group

Keck Hospital of USC has achieved its eighth "A" Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group within the past five years, maintaining its position as one of the safest hospitals in the nation. The Leapfrog Group's ratings are determined by evaluating over 30 measures of hospital safety, including errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. The "A" grade reflects Keck Hospital's dedication to high-quality care and safety protocols.

Meanwhile, the University of Chicago Medical Center has received its 25th consecutive "A" Hospital Safety Grade, setting a notable record as one of only 15 hospitals nationwide to achieve such consistent high marks, and the sole hospital in Chicago to do so. Across the country, the number of hospitals maintaining consecutive "A" grades has declined, illustrating the challenge of sustaining top safety performance.

In New Jersey, the Leapfrog Group's Spring 2024 Hospital Safety Grades show a significant improvement for the state, with 30 hospitals earning "A" grades, ranking New Jersey third in the nation for patient safety. Five RWJBarnabas Health facilities contributed to this accomplishment, including notable improvements such as the elevation of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton from a "C" to an "A."

Additional recognitions include "A" grades awarded to Iredell Memorial Hospital in North Carolina and both the Loma Linda University Medical Center and its East Campus in California. Loma Linda Medical Center – Murrieta received its inaugural "A" rating, highlighting the organization's commitment to preventing harm and medical errors. The Leapfrog Group's hospital safety data is publicly available, providing transparency and accountability in healthcare quality.
