Kazakh Opposition Journalist Sadykov Dies in Kyiv Following Assassination Attempt

Kazakh opposition journalist Aidos Sadykov has died in Ukraine after being shot in the head on June 18 in Kyiv. Sadykov, who was in a coma following the attack, passed away in the hospital. His wife, Natalya Sadykova, confirmed his death and has accused Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of being involved in the assassination attempt.

Ukrainian authorities believe the suspects are Kazakh nationals. One suspect, Altai Zhakanbayev, has been detained by Kazakh authorities, but Kazakhstan has stated it will not extradite him to Ukraine. The second suspect remains at large. President Tokayev has expressed a willingness to cooperate with Ukrainian authorities in the investigation.
