Katy Perry Edits Harrison Butker’s Speech for Pride Month

Katy Perry has shared an edited version of Harrison Butker's controversial graduation speech in celebration of Pride Month. The original speech, delivered at Kansas' Benedictine University, emphasized traditional gender roles, advocating homemaking and motherhood as a woman's primary vocation and criticizing women in the workforce, LGBTQIA+ pride, abortion access, and the use of IVF and surrogacy. In Perry's edited version, Butker appears to encourage women to lead successful careers and celebrates diversity.

The edited speech replaces Butker's original remarks with messages of empowerment for women and support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Perry's version also includes changes in language, such as addressing "the ladies present" instead of "women" and claiming they have had "diabolical lies told to them about their place in society." The NFL's Chief Diversity Officer, Jonathan Beane, clarified that Butker's views do not represent those of the organization.
