Kamala Harris to Meet Teamsters Union in Bid for Labor Support

Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted an invitation from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) for a roundtable discussion, although a date for the meeting has yet to be set. This invitation is part of Harris' efforts to garner support from unions, which are a significant voting bloc in key battleground states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The Teamsters, who endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, have not yet endorsed a candidate for the upcoming presidential election.

This engagement comes amid a broader context of labor endorsements, with Harris having already secured support from the United Auto Workers (UAW) and the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). The Teamsters' General President Sean O’Brien, who previously participated in a roundtable with former President Donald Trump, has also requested to speak at the Democratic National Convention. The Harris campaign has not yet commented on the forthcoming roundtable or the broader strategy for securing union endorsements.
