Judge Allows Elon Musk's X to Proceed with Lawsuit Against Media Matters

A federal judge in Texas has denied Media Matters' request to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter. The lawsuit was initiated after Media Matters published a report showing hateful content on X's platform appearing next to ads from companies like Apple, IBM, and Disney. X's attorneys argue that the report was "intentionally deceptive" and financially damaged the company. Judge Reed O'Connor ruled that the plaintiff has properly pled its claims, allowing the lawsuit to proceed to trial on April 7, 2025.

In addition, Judge O'Connor dismissed a request by Media Matters to list Tesla as an interested party in the lawsuit, stating there is no evidence that Tesla has a direct financial interest in the outcome of the case. Media Matters President Angelo Carusone claimed the lawsuit was an attempt to silence X's critics. The trial is expected to address the allegations and the impact of the Media Matters report on X's business.
