Italian Coast Guard searches for missing migrants after deadly shipwrecks

The Italian Coast Guard is conducting a search for missing migrants off the southern coast of Italy following a shipwreck. The incident occurred after a French boat issued a Mayday call about 120 miles from the Italian coast. The migrants were rescued from a partially sunken vessel and transported to the Calabrian port of Roccella Jonica, where they received medical attention. One of the migrants died shortly after being rescued.

The rescue operation involved two merchant vessels and assets from the European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex. Reports indicate that 12 migrants were found, with one of the survivors later succumbing to their injuries. Additionally, the German aid group RESQSHIP reported that 11 migrants have died and dozens are missing due to two shipwrecks off Italy's southern coast. The operation continues as authorities search for any remaining missing individuals.
