iPhone 15 Pro Max Leads Q1 2024 Sales, Outpaces Competitors

The iPhone 15 Pro Max has secured the title of the best-selling smartphone in the first quarter of 2024, according to research by Counterpoint. Achieving a 4.4% market share, this marks the first instance of an Apple Pro Max model leading sales in a non-seasonal quarter. Alongside the Pro Max, Apple's other models have demonstrated strong performance, with all four iPhone 15 variants and the iPhone 14 collectively occupying half of the top ten best-selling spots.

Samsung remains a key competitor, with the Galaxy S24 series claiming two spots in the top ten—its Ultra model at fifth and the base model at ninth. The sales of premium smartphones, which now comprise seven out of the top ten spots, indicate a consumer trend towards high-end features. These include advanced camera capabilities, dynamic displays, and the integration of generative AI technology.

Counterpoint's data also reveals a shift in Apple's sales composition. Half of the company's total sales for the quarter came from the Pro range, up from 24% in 2020. Analysts predict that the leading smartphones, with their premium specifications, will continue to take a larger share of the market moving forward.
