Hyundai Launches INSTER: A 217-Mile EV Starting at £22,000
Hyundai Motor Company has introduced the all-electric INSTER, a new A-segment sub-compact urban EV. The vehicle features a distinctive design and a spacious interior aimed at providing versatility in the sub-compact segment. The INSTER offers a driving range of up to 355 km on a single charge for its Long-Range model, and it can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes under optimal conditions. It is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital cluster, an infotainment touchscreen with navigation, a wireless charging dock, and flexible seating arrangements. The car also includes advanced driver assistance systems.
The INSTER will be available with two battery and motor configurations: an entry-level model featuring a 42kWh battery and a 96bhp front-mounted drive unit, and a higher-spec model with a 49kWh battery and a 113bhp motor. These configurations offer ranges of up to 217 miles and top speeds of up to 93 mph. The car's platform, based on the Hyundai Casper, has been expanded by 230mm to increase practicality and space for an underfloor battery pack.
The vehicle will first be launched in Korea this summer, followed by releases in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific regions. Pricing for the INSTER is expected to start at around £22,000, positioning it competitively against other affordable electric cars like the Citroën ë-C3 and the Dacia Spring. Hyundai has also announced plans to introduce a more rugged version, the Hyundai Inster Cross, at a later stage.
