Himachal Pradesh to Seek Supreme Court Help for Shanan Hydro Project

The Himachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is planning to approach the Supreme Court to reclaim the 110 MW Shanan Hydel Project from Punjab, as the lease period has expired. The government aims to assert its claims to ensure maximum benefits for the state's residents. In addition to legal action, the state plans to engage with the Government of India and the Punjab government to expedite the transfer process.

The administration also intends to address its rights within the Bhakra Beas Management Board, which has previously been adjudicated by the Supreme Court. Moreover, a notice will be issued to JSW Company for non-compliance with the implementation agreement for the 1,045 MW Karcham Wangtoo Hydro Power Project. The state government has decided to introduce royalty slabs of 12%, 18%, and 30% for power projects, which will be handed back to the state after 40 years, aiming to strengthen Himachal Pradesh's economy.
