Health Officials Warn of Measles Exposure in New England

New Hampshire's Department of Health and Human Services is investigating a potential measles exposure after an international traveler, who has since returned to their home country for medical treatment, tested positive for the virus. The traveler visited several public locations in Hanover between June 20th and 22nd, including Dartmouth College, The Hanover Inn, Hanover Scoops, Lou’s Restaurant and Bakery, and the Dartmouth Coach bus from Hanover to Boston Logan Airport. As of now, there are no confirmed measles cases in New Hampshire.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has also issued an alert regarding potential measles exposure linked to this traveler. Exposure risks may have occurred at 11:40 a.m. on the Dartmouth Coach bus line in Hanover, NH, and at various public locations. Measles, a highly contagious airborne disease, presents symptoms such as high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes several days before a body rash appears. Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein emphasized the importance of vaccination, noting that those unvaccinated are at greater risk. Individuals exposed may need to confirm their immunization status and could face quarantine for up to 21 days.
