HBO's Harry Potter Series Taps Succession's Mark Mylod to Direct, Francesca Gardiner as Showrunner

HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series has secured key creative talents, with Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod set to lead the project. Gardiner, known for her work on "Succession" and "His Dark Materials," will serve as the showrunner and executive producer. Mylod, who has directed episodes of "Succession" and "Game of Thrones," will direct multiple episodes and also serve as an executive producer. The series aims to provide a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved novels, with each book represented in a separate season.

This new adaptation, scheduled for release in 2026, marks a strategic shift for Warner Bros. Discovery, transitioning from Max originals to HBO originals. The series will feature an entirely new cast and will be produced by J.K. Rowling alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films. The project has been in development since 2021 and is expected to span seven seasons, aligning with the seven books in the Harry Potter series.
