Google Vids: The AI-Driven Video Creation Tool in Workspace

Google has enhanced its Workspace platform with a slew of new features aimed at improving productivity and collaboration in the workplace. Among these is the introduction of Google Vids, a collaborative video creation app that allows users to generate videos using assets from Google Drive, stock libraries, and other sources. The app, expected to enter public beta this summer, emphasizes ease of use, enabling users to create, share, and collaboratively edit videos with voiceovers and other elements.

In addition to Google Vids, Workspace has been updated with AI-powered tools designed to streamline tasks such as meeting note-taking and email drafting. The platform is also expanding its language support for meeting translations to include 52 new languages, and plans are in place to introduce automatic translation of messages and on-demand conversation summaries in Google Chat. The updates also include enhanced security features available for an additional $10 per month, targeting enterprises concerned with collaboration platform security risks.

The integration of these new features, including Google Vids, with existing tools like Docs, Sheets, and Slides is part of Google's broader effort to maintain a competitive edge in the workplace productivity software market. Google Vids, which utilizes the Gemini AI model for video creation, will first be available in Workspace Labs in June, with broader availability for non-Workspace enterprise customers to follow. Meanwhile, Workspace itself is expanding with improvements like increased Google Chat member capacity and interoperability with other messaging platforms like Slack and Teams.
